I should win the contest because I gave absolute max effort literally every single day throughout this contest. There has not been a single morning that I havenβt jumped out of bed at the opportunity to better myself.
Most importantly, why not me?
I asked myself that question often. I am aiming to be the father figure that my two young boys can look up to and think, "I have the best dad. He takes care of his body, his mind, and his spirit, and he can say no to temptation."
I have broken through the chains of alcohol. I have watched it plague my family tree generation after generation. That cycle stops here.
Health and fitness are some of the most gratifying things because you get to watch the process unfoldβthe scale moving, clothes fitting differently, and your mind becoming unstoppable.
The theme of the past 10 weeks has been adversity.
I have battled it both internally and externally. I dealt with many challenges throughout the contest, including both of my parents being hospitalized for an extended period of time. Thankfully, they are both okay now, but seeing them on the "illness" side of the spectrum was difficult for me to navigate.
It reminded me that putting yourself first and leading by example is one of the best ways to teach your kids about hard work, dedication, and sacrifice.
This contest kept me grounded and level-headed. Without my faith and my commitment to this community, Iβm not sure where my head would be today.
It is up to me to make sure I am on the "wellness" end of the spectrum when my two boys are my age.
Mentally, it was a battle, but physically is where I feel like I came out on top.
I started at 196.8 lbs with a goal of reaching 166 lbs. I finished at 167.4 lbsβsomewhere I haven't been since probably junior high school.
I woke up every day with the mindset that I would not be outworked by anyone.
I made a promise to myself: no cheat meals, no missed workouts, no missed rucks, and no missed lunge sessions. At the end of this contest, I didn't want to live with the regret of knowing I hadn't given everything I had.
I also had three close friends join the contest with me this year. I wanted to lead by example and be a constant voice in their ears to ensure they had the best experience possible and achieved the best results.
Being somewhat of a mentor aligns with my career as a Registered Nurse. I am always caring for others and putting their needs before my own.
But from 3:00β6:00 a.m., I made a commitment to myself that I would come first. That way, I could be fully prepared to care for everyone else throughout the rest of the day.
I followed Pump :30 and later transitioned into Golden Era Swole while incorporating daily Zone 2 incline ruck walks/runs. Lunges remained a staple throughout the entire contest.
Anabolic Fasting literally changed the trajectory of my life and made me a better father, husband, and friend.
In closing, if I were chosen as the winner of this contest, it would be something I would be eternally grateful for. The opportunity to represent Max Effort Muscle and CoryG Fitness would mean the world to me. These two communities have become staples in my life and have quite literally helped save it.
