Getting his edge back

Back in 2016, training was simply part of who he was. Then injuries happened, life changed, and somewhere along the way, he lost his edge. He never completely stopped working out, but he knew he was going through the motions. Ten years later, the birth of his second daughter forced him to look at the standard he was living—and decide it was time to start getting it back.

Enter Colton:

I remember who I was back in 2016. That’s when I was really locked in. I had started following Max Effort and the Cory G App, and everything just clicked. I had structure, I had purpose, and I was pushing myself every day. Training wasn’t something I had to do; it was just part of who I was.

Then life happened.

I tore my pec and had some disc herniations, and that changed a lot. I never fully stopped working out, but it just wasn’t the same. The edge wasn’t there anymore. It felt like I was just going through the motions.

Not being able to get my pec fixed made it even harder. It felt like I couldn’t fully move on or get back to where I used to be. Somewhere along the way, I lost the love for it.

But I kept showing up… just not as my best.

Then things shifted again.

The week before I started this, my second daughter was born. And that hit different. It made me take a step back and really look at everything.

I realized I didn’t want to be average anymore—in my health, my mindset, or how I show up in life. Because it’s bigger than just me.

I coach high school football, and we’ve got a really solid program. But I knew I wasn’t bringing my best to those kids. And that didn’t sit right with me. It’s hard to expect a high standard from them if I’m not living it myself.

So I made a decision. Nothing big or flashy, just a mindset shift.

I’m going to be better. In every part of my life. I’m not where I want to be yet. Not even close. But this is a real starting point for me.

I’m getting back to that edge, maybe not the same version as 2016, but a better one. One that’s been through some things and still decided to keep going.

For my family. For my players. For myself. Just getting started.
