Big Visits, Big Decisions: The Journey Continues // Bo's Inner Circle
Hello Inner Circle!
What's going on everyone! The official start to the season is here. I can't believe this is already my junior season, but at least I finally get to be on the same team with my brothers. Ironman is right around the corner and I can't wait. Let's dig into some recruiting stuff.
Now for my recruiting:
This weekend we took a trip down to Blacksburg, VA and I am so glad we did. I really didn't know what to expect at Virginia Tech but I was pumped to finally get to a wrestling match to see the environment. The football games are always fun on the visits, but I am a wrestler and I want to see the match atmosphere. I was really shocked and blown away by the fans at VT. Their student section was great and they had so many young wrestlers there watching. They really seemed to love wrestling and the match was very good. VT was able to beat Missouri and there were some really good matches. It was great to see Keegan O'Toole and Caleb Henson wrestle their matches. I got to stay with Jimmy Mullins. Him and I have been friends since my first world team in Budapest. I got to scrap with Bryce Andonian and some others. Their coaches are very Passionate and driven to be great. All the coaches are proven and have done great things. Coach Frayer has a proven track record with #149 pounders. Coach Tanelli was a head coach and now they are blessed to have him as an assistant. Coach Haught is a great human and it was great to talk to him. Coach Robie has done a great job building the program into one of the top ten every year. My dad and I were very impressed with their Nutritionist/strength department. Clint Wattenberg was very good and glad we got the chance to talk with him. I think with a few more pieces they could make a serious run. I was very impressed with the campus and liked how small Blacksburg was. Saturday we got to hang out with Hokie Joe and he showed us what the Machine Gun Mindset was all about! That evening, we joined the team and watched the All Star match & UFC fight. Overall the visit was great!
Some people say they didn't or don't like the recruiting process, I can honestly say I love it. I enjoy hanging with my family and getting to learn about all the programs, their culture and get to talk to great coaches & learn from amazing wrestlers. My brothers have been right along side experiencing this with me and we have all been able to get in amazing training as well.
I will be continuing to do my graphic and eliminating schools each week. I stopped for a while and got hundreds of messages asking if I would continue it. People enjoyed learning about each visit and the little things. Then like anything in life, you get the few people who don't like it because its different and not normal. I always like to do things a little differently and most importantly have fun with things. I worked my whole life in wrestling and am going to enjoy this process. I know, when I was young, I would have loved to follow Spencer Lee or Zain Retherford recruiting process. So unfortunately this week I had to take Missouri off the list. They are a great program with a top notch coaching staff. I really enjoyed talking to Coach Maple. He is a great coach and an even better person. I won't forget some of our talks and conversations. I also got to hang out with Coach Bradley in Peru this summer. Thanks to Coach Smith for coming in for a home visit. I definitely know they got great things going on and love their Tiger Style mindset. I wish them the best and luck on the season.
This weekend we are heading out to Oklahoma State. I am really excited to see Stillwater and see the new vision for their program. OK State has some serious wrestling tradition over the years and I am pumped to see their wrestling atmosphere. I hope I get a chance to scrap with Daton Fix and RBY when we are out there. I also plan to catch up with Ladarion Lockett as well. Friday we attend their first home match vs Wyoming, then Saturday a football game vs Texas Tech and Sunday another match vs Arizona State. This will be the last visit until late January. Then anymore I want to check out will have to be in the spring after states.
I got Rutgers scheduled and locked in Jan 24-26!
