#48 Get More Outta Yourself
Questions about how I operate come up all the time. People want to be more efficient. People want to be more effective with their day. I don’t know if I’m the most consistent person ever, but I have firm structures in place.
Daily Structure
What’s the net value of what you do consistently? I have the days where I’m max-effort tilt and blazing all the weights and feeling fucking jacked, but that’s not every day.
So, how do I structure my day? How do I get up earlier? How do I get more out of my job, get promoted, make more money, become more successful, or build a better body? It all comes down to having a structured plan that you execute consistently. Adhering to this structure on a daily basis allows me to get more out of myself.
Structures Amongst the Chaos
We live in some crazy times. The pandemic and racial injustice live in the front of our minds. So much change needs to happen. I can feel the stress weighing on my mind, just as most of you do too. Whether you’re aware or not, all of us are stressed out to some degree.
It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes I wake up and don’t feel like going to the gym to train. Let me tell you, that’s a weird fucking feeling for me. Being in the game for over 20 years has presented its ups and downs. I might be tired one day, injured another, or not wanting to train because of stress in my life.
Having structures in place tells you what you’re doing each day. Having structures in place helps to maintain normalcy and routine. Having structures keeps you on track. Consistently living in your established system will result in a better and more consistent output than most others. I believe that's how you beat your competition. I believe that's how you push yourself to the next level.
Get More
For me, getting up super early is just the way I operate. Doing so has allowed me to push myself harder in order to get more out of myself. You only have so much time in the day. When you become a dad, get married, have three kids and other obligations, things start to pile up quickly. That's why I have such a high value on time. I don't like to waste it because I know I can't get it back.
In order to be successful, I know that I have to consistently adhere to my systems. Not only that, but I have to be constantly refining them to make them even better. The outcome? The golden process that yields an undeniable result.
That's what you have seen up to this point with me. I’m constantly making small tweaks and refining the process to make it gold. Because when it's gold, you know what the output is.
It’s Not Natural
It’s not natural way for me to be this way, but it is necessary. Goals can be daunting, but with the right systems and structure, they become more achievable. They're on this mountain and they feel so far away, and they are.
Warren Buffet talks about the importance of patience and consistency. Patience and consistency have made him one of the wealthiest people that has ever lived.
What’s Your Score?
Everything in your life has a scorecard. Your business, job, body, etc. Ask yourself, what’s your score? Be honest with yourself. What results are you currently getting? How can I get more out of myself?
Look at your process, refine it, and expect more out of yourself.
