Start Tightening Up Your Waistline in 5 Minutes
A forgotten way to train your waist
Sometimes the best additions to your training aren’t complicated. Stick twists have been around for decades (shout-out to the Golden Era homies), and for good reason.
Legends like Arnold, Franco, and Frank Zane used them to tighten up their waistline and improve their posture & mobility before training. Zane in particular was known for the precision he brought to every movement.
How to do them the RIGHT way
- Keep your head & hips steady while your waist rotates. Eyes forward, hips forward
- Pull the belly button in, stay tight, and bring the elbows across the body toward the hips as you rotate back and forth.
I’ll run these for about 5 minutes straight as part of a warmup. They help reduce stiffness and get the torso ready to support heavier work.
If you feel tight or struggle to stay aligned, perform them seated on a bench. That helps keep everything square so you can focus on proper rotation.
It’s simple, effective, and still relevant today.
